Tom Jackson - 2127) Tom had just signaled Lt Maraht when his reply came in. =^= Yes Lt. Jackson. This is Maraht. Go ahead^= Tom explained that they had completed their initial tasks and were wondering what they could do in addition. Maraht replied after slight pause. =^= You and the other repair teams have done very well in a difficult situation. There is certainly plenty more to do," said Maraht. "Now that we have main power back, I'd like for you to take a close look at the power distribution levels for the emergency force fields on Decks 5 and 6. Right now those are a priority. We don't need those to fail in another difficult situation. We need to make sure they are solidly in place so Engineering teams can do what they can to replace the missing bulkheads.=^= "Understood Lieutenant. We'll concentrate on those items first. Things fro the guidance' Jackson replied. (reply: Maraht) Maraht gave additional instructions fro Jackson and his team. =^= Some of that may take stopping at another starbase when this Mission is over. In the meantime, I will await your assessment for you to give Engineering the go ahead to do what they can. Let me know when you do. For now the worst of that area has been set up with bypass circuits by Lt. Wilson to circumvent any difficulties, except for the force fields. The area needs to be as safe as we can make it for them as Counselor Nayati and other rescuers told me of dangerous electrical arcs occurring from live conduits and cables becoming partially disconnected. Those will need assessed and safely reconnected as well once your force field power assessment is done. Meet with the repair team headed up by Engineer Lt. Wilson on Deck 5 in section 4. =^= "Understood - Jackson out" and Tom closed the link. Tom sat and thought about the thing things he needed to do next. [The explosion on Deck 5 was triggered by energy being surged through defects in the power buses. Ship's electronic systems are largely restored. Ship's internal and external sensory have been restored. Damage Control parties have replaced the faulty chips in the power buses. Emergency force fields have sealed off those areas exposed to deep space. Damage Control has yet to begin work on sealing those areas. Ambassador Frazier is on the Bridge. She and Commander Lamar are communicating with a Romulan commander.] There was a long pause on the computer's part, which terminated just before Jon exited the Deck l turbolift. [Aide Grem's current location is unknown.] (Posted by Jim McCrary) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Main Bridge – CCOUNS Ensign Jon Nayati - 2155) Jon entered the Main Bridge just as Ambassador Frazier and Cmdr Lamar were still engaged with the Romulan commander. The Hades staff was reticent to divulge what happened to Nolan and Sash. The Romulan was wishing to render assistance, and the Hades crew seemed reluctant to accept any offers of their help. The Commander's and the Ambassador's evasiveness was transparent to Jon's true sight, as was Rhian's visible suspicious curiosity. The only good thing about the apparent impasse was that Jon could see nothing about the Romulan's aura to indicate deceit. Jon's instinctive danger sense didn't alert him to menace when commander Rhian insisted his ship escort the Hades the rest of the way to Romulus. Brianna Frazier accepted the Romulan's offer of escort herself, with a bright beautiful smile. (Posted by Jim McCrary) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Main Bridge – CCOUNS Ensign Jon Nayati - 2157) Jon watched the tableau of events take place before him. He was overwhelmed with a sense of guilt. He'd been crashed out, when his real place should have on the Bridge with Bree Frazier. Jon moved quickly to make a belated contribution now. As Ambassador Frazier and Tarus Daban left the Bridge, Jon approached both the departing individuals. "Forgive me for not being here when commander Rhian opened communication with us," said Jon. "But I was here long enough to see his aura as he spoke. At first he was curious about the explosion. He wanted to know about the Ambassador and to speak to Captain Sash. Then he became excessively impatient about our refusal to disclose anything and take up his offer of escort." "The only positive thing about his aura was that there were no visible discrepancies between his words and his emotions, so I don't think he was trying to deceive us. I don't think he knows anything about the explosion on Deck 5." (Reply Brianna Frazier, Tarus Daban) Having talked briefly with Bree, Jon moved to report in with Cmdr Lamar. (Posted by Jim McCrary) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Main Bridge – Ambassador Brianna Frazier – 2158) The communications had been over far quicker than Bree had really expected. The response from the Romulan Commander were almost text book, and thankfully hadn’t been loaded with any surprises. She had been a little alarmed at how transparent Jonas Lemar had been while speaking to the Romulan, but then they weren’t really prepared for what the Romulans would ask, so she had made a quick joke about it and put it past them. She would be sure to give Jonas some pointers for next time. As she neared the turbolift, she noticed that Jon Nayati had at some point entered the bridge, and he was now moving to intercept her. “Jon,” she said with a smile, “I hadn’t noticed you there.” “Forgive me for not being here when Commander Rhian opened communication with us,” Jon apologised unnecessarily. “...but I was here long enough to see his aura as he spoke. At first he was curious about the explosion. He wanted to know about the Ambassador and to speak to Captain Sash. Then he became excessively impatient about our refusal to disclose anything and take up his offer of escort.” Bree nodded, “That’s okay Jon. I saw that clearly myself. I sensed he was a little annoyed in the end, and he’s certainly suspicious of something.” She was acutely aware of the emotion, even from the distance of ship to ship, but only because she could see him visually, which helped her to focus on him. “The only positive thing about his aura was that there were no visible discrepancies between his words and his emotions, so I don't think he was trying to deceive us. I don't think he knows anything about the explosion on Deck 5” added Jon, completing his brief report on the situation. “Thanks for that Jon,” said Bree, continuing to move to the doors. “It’s nice to have some verification.” She flashed a smile, and then she whirled he red curls around as she headed to the turbolift. “Counsellor,” acknowledged Lieutenant Tarus as he followed the self-promoted Ambassador. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 1, Main Bridge - CTAC Lt. Ammon Ranae - 2200) Jonas sat in the command chair, wondering if the presences of the Romulan warship actually changed anything. They could have been there al along for all any of them knew, cloaked and watching them from a short distance away. Should they be any more or less vigilant now? No, very little had changed, and Jonas decided he was going to stick to his original plan. Like all the bridge officers, Ranae was always aware of whoever was in the command chair, unless she was in TIHS mode, so she saw the FO stand up and wondered where he was going or if he was just stretching. She soon found out which when he asked Ensign McKenzie to join him in the ready room. ~I hope he's not in trouble.~ Ranae thought, though it didn't seem logical for the man hadn't done anything wrong as far as the CTAC could tell. Jonas looked over his shoulder toward the tactical station, "Lieutenant Ammon, I want all passive scans we have available on that Warbird. I'll need a tactical summary of its abilities, strengths and weaknesses for tomorrows briefing." Lt. Ammon acknowledged the FO with an "aye, Sir." She smiled at him and added, "I've been researching all known data on that class also." She began relaying the more recent data her scans had brought her to a PADD, it looked like she'd be having a busy evening if she didn't get her task done while on duty, but at least she had the sprouting of ideas about battle strategies brewing in her mind. The FO briefly glanced around the rest of the bridge and then replied to the CTAC. "Very well. Lieutenant Kudrow should be arriving soon to take over gamma watch. Until then, you have the conn." he gave her a smile and she beamed back at him, thankful that he still had faith in her and quite happy to think that she would be getting off duty soon, or at least off the bridge. She would have to work on her presentation in quarters, because she really wanted to see Baylon, for a little while at least. Commander Lemar made his way toward the ready room with Ensign MacKenzie hot on his heels and stepping away from TAC 1, Ranae nodded to the Tactical officer who had previously taken over, to take over again. With PADD in hand, Ranae went to sit in the command chair again and began work on her presentation for the next day. As she read the scan results, Ranae found that the Valdore class was an impressive vessel, but like all ships it had it's weakness, she just had to find it and exploit it in the unlikely event the USS Hades had to combat the Donatra and/or any of it's sister ships. (posted by Sal) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 1, Main Bridge - ACSO Ensign Kenneth McKenzie – 2204) Kenny was busy studying away on the Bridge Science Station, looking at files about the ship, so he could learn more about it. He remembered reading the basics on a PADD he was given before he came aboard, but he could learn more at the panel. "Ensign McKenzie; would you please join me in the ready room?" asked the Commander. Kenny gulped. He felt singled-out. He wounded why the Commander, would want to see him in his ready room? He wondered if he was going to ask him about what he went through and was going to recommend counselling or something. Kenny could not help feeling like a child confronted by a parent who wanted to tell him about death. Kenny followed the Commander into the ready room and stood at attention. "You wanted to see me, Sir?" he asked. (Posted by Gavin Work) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Ready Room – FO Commander Jonas Lemar - 2205) As Jonas stepped through to the ready room, he tried not to feel bad about using the room that was essentially the Captain’s office. It wasn’t that he thought he would mind, but he didn’t want to seem like he was jumping into the Captain’s shoes and taking over too eagerly. As he moved over to the desk, he came to a stop in front of it, then turned and sat on the edge slightly, leaning with his arms folded. Ensign McKenzie stepped in, a strange look on his face. It actually made Jonas smile, to think that the Ensign thought he was in some sort of trouble, when in truth all Jonas wanted to do was to take time to say hello. “You wanted to see me, Sir?” asked the Ensign uncertainly. “Yes, come in Ensign” said Jonas, offering the Ensign a seat. (reply: McKenzie) “Look, you can be at ease. I just wanted us to take five minutes, to let you report in like you normally would, rather than me setting you right to work.” Jonas smiled warmly, hoping to calm the nervous Ensign. Patting the Ensign on the shoulder, Jonas continued, “The past few hours have been a little hectic. It’s not normally like this onboard, so I hope this hasn’t put you off.” (reply: McKenzie) As Jonas moved around to the desk he picked up a dataPADD that at some point had been passed to him, containing the details of Ensign Kenneth McKenzie. “So, I know the Captain likes to do it this way...” He then looked up, “...so I have your file. Tell me something about yourself that isn’t here in writing for me.” Jonas hoped the Ensign would tell him about his personality, his hopes and dreams. He often liked to get familiar with the new crew members. It made managing them later much easier. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 1, Ready Room - ACSO Ensign Kenneth McKenzie - 2209) "Look; you can be at ease. I just wanted us to take five minutes, to let you report in like you normally would, rather than me setting you right to work." said Commander Lemar as Kenny took a seat. "Aye, Sir. Thanks." Kenny smiled, relaxing. Commander Lemar leant over the desk and patted Kenny on the shoulder. "The past few hours have been a little hectic. It's not normally like this onboard, so I hope this hasn't put you off." "No, Sir." Kenny replied. He wanted to say more, about how this made him want to continue to serve about the ship, but he could not think of what. "So; I know the Captain likes to do it this way...So I have your file. Tell me something about yourself that isn't here in writing for me." Kenny thought for a moment. "Uh, well, Sir. I don't know what is written about me on there, so I might just be repeating stuff that you already know already But I was born and raised in Scotland on Earth. Small farming town called Ballachulish. Old Gealic name. My mother is a doctor at the local hospital, which is where I learnt some basic first aid. I grew up a farmer. We do have replicators like everyone else, but that kinda food is bland compared to the real stuff you farm. We really just used the replicators to repair broken farm tools. hehe. It was a simple life. I love Earth history and, ironically, the violent periods of our history. You can learn a lot from those eras. But something has to be said about the general history. It's a nice old town in the Scottish Highlands. So isolated, that it was even spared from the mass bombing of the Third World War. So it boasts a lot of the original buildings from the 17 to the 20th Century, unlike the imitations in the larger cities. You should see it in summer time. Large mountains, heather, great sparkling lochs, and you can even see Ben Nevis on a clear day." Kenny got up and walked towards the window. "Starfleet? Well, the universe is a big place, and there is just so much out there to explore and learn." he turned to the Commander. "I am a man on knowledge, Commander. I always wanted to leave Earth some day and explore the galaxy. And what better way to do this than becoming a Science Officer in Starfleet? To work alongside aliens and to learn from everything, to better ourselves. I got my degrees in Science from Glasgow Uni. I even noticed a rocky creature at the Engineering station on the bridge. Is he-or she-a Horta? I don't think I have ever seen one with my own eyes." He sat down. "I'll admit. This explosion happened seconds after I boarded. The man at the transporter room who beamed be aboard got hit by his console exploding, I had to drag him to sick bay, that's how I ended up with Dr. Kildare.... Oh, sorry. You wanted to know about me, I didn’t mean to give you a detailed report on my actions, Sir. Is there anything else you want to know?" "Oh, I do have a question; Am I to understand that I am the Assistant Chief Science Officer?" (Posted by Gavin Work) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Ready Room – FO Commander Jonas Lemar - 2210) No sooner had Jonas opened up the floor to the young Ensign did he take it with full force and embrace it for the stage Jonas had intended. He started by telling him of his home town, where he was from on Earth. Jonas was fascinated to learn about life on a farm, away from the bustling cities of the mainlands. Jonas was from a farming estate too, although from the sounds of it things were much different where McKenzie was from. Jonas made a mental note to talk more to McKenzie about this at another time. As the Ensign stood up and walked to the viewport, he continued to talk more, this time about what drew him to Starfleet. “...I always wanted to leave Earth some day and explore the galaxy. And what better way to so this that becoming a Science Officer in Starfleet? To work alongside aliens and learn from everything to better ourselves. I got my degrees in Science from Glasgow Uni. I even noticed a rocky creature at the Engineering station on the bridge. Is he-or she-a Horta? I don't think I have ever seen one with my own eyes.” Jonas knew at once who he had been referring to, and answered, “Lieutenant Maraht is a Horta, yes. And HE was actually manning the Operations station.” Jonas smiled, sure that the Ensign would soon get used to things onboard. “It might be wise not to go staring at Maraht in blind fascination, although I’m certain he would be delighted to tell you more about himself and his species.” McKenzie seemed pleased with the answer, then returned to his seat. “I'll admit. Is there anything else you want to know?” Jonas laughed and shook his head. Kenny McKenzie had managed to tell him just about everything there was to know, and all in just a matter of minutes. “Oh, I do have a question; Am I to understand that I am the Assistant Chief Science Officer?” Kenny looked up. ~Ah, so it’s back to business~ thought Jonas as he clasped his hands together and nodded, “That would be correct Ensign. You have been assigned as one of the ships Assistance Chief Science Officers. Your department head is Lieutenant Ardena Carrow, who I believe is actually briefing her entire department right now.” Jonas checked his computer for the exact time, but then looked back at McKenzie, hoping that the Ensign wasn’t thinking he needed to dart out of here to meet with her. “I’m sure there will be plenty of time to meet with Lieutenant Carrow in the morning. For now, I suggest you settle in to your new quarters and get some rest.” (reply: McKenzie) Jonas tapped at a few buttons on his console, looking only briefly away from the Ensign. “It looks like quartermaster has already assigned you some quarters on Deck 3.” Jonas stood up from his seat and added, “There will be a briefing tomorrow at 1000 hours. You should be present along with the rest of the senior staff. I’d advise you check in with Lieutenant Carrow before that. Any questions?” (reply: McKenzie) After answering everything the Ensign wished to ask, Jonas gave a final nod and said, “Then dismissed Ensign.” (reply: McKenzie) As the Ensign left, Jonas couldn’t help but think he would make a fine addition to the crew. Someone with his enthusiasm was just what they needed right now! (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 3, Personal Quarters - ACSO Ensign Kenneth McKenzie - 2213) Kenny walked out of Commander Lemar’s Office and into the turbo lift. Well, he knew it was the Captains office, but right now, it was the Commanders'. "Deck Three." Kenny said. The computer bleeped in acknowledgement and the turbo lift moved. Then Kenny remembered something. "Computer, belay my last command." The computer bleeped and stopped the turbolift. "Deck Five." The computer bleeped and began to move the turbolift again. Kenny realised that even though he had quarters, he left his stuff in the transporter room when the explosion happened. He dropped his stuff to help Ensign Artois and carry him to sickbay. He hoped it was still there. The turbo lift doors opened and Kenny walked out. Although power was back on, parts of the walls of the corridor were blasted away, or open by maintenance crew to do repairs. The explosion had hit the ship hard. Kenny came to the doors to the transporter room and they opened, half way. Kenny rolled his eyes and placed his hands in-between the doors and pushed them open. He never realised how heavy these doors were. Well; they had to be to withstand blasts, he thought. Just as his arms were getting tired, he saw another person’s arms wedge themselves into the opening as well and helped him to open the doors. Once they were open, Kenny was surprised to see that the helper was non-other than the Bolian who helped him earlier, Chane. "Well, well; Kenny! What are you doing back here?" asked Chane. "Came to get my bag. I left it here when we helped that Ensign get to Sickbay." "Ah, then it must be this one." Chane pointed to a long bag that was propped up against the wall in the transporter room. Kenny walked over to it. "Aye, this is it. Thanks." He shouldered it. "What are you doing here, Chane?" "I'm part of the Maintenance crew assigned to this deck. Working double shifts now." he smiled. "I'm just off to my room. I hope it's still there, and not blasted a few thousand miles in space!" They both laughed. "Anyway; I better get back to work, Kenny. I'll see you another time." "Alright, bye." Kenny walked out of the transporter room, they doors were still open and didn't shut behind him. He retraced his steps back to the turbolift and entered. "Deck Three." The computer bleeped and moved the turbolift. A few sounds later, the doors opened on Deck Three. As they walked down, he past a few repair crews doing work on the bulkheads of the corridor. He came to his room. He walked up to the door and closed his eyes, hoping that he was not going to see a force field covering empty space. Luckily, the doors opened to reveal nice and undamaged quarters. Kenny sighed and walked in. He was far too tired to unpack now, after all he went through. He took of his uniform and got into bed. "Computer; Set alarm for 0800 hours. Mark." The computer bleeped. "Computer. Lights off." Another bleep. This time Kenny closed his eyes. He was so tired that it did not take him long to fall asleep. (Posted by Gavin Work) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 3, Personal Quarters - CCOUNS Ensign Jon Nayati – 2225) Once Ambassador Frazier had agreed to let the Romulan Captain Rhian escort still wounded Hades to Romulus things were less frantic on the bridge. The bulk of the activity there now was focused on damage control and restoring ship's functional integrity back to the status quo. Jon took some comfort from the fact that Captain Rhian hadn't continued to insist that FO Lamar have Romulan personal come on board Hades to render technical assistance,Jon was further comforted by the clean bill of truth his true sight reading of the Romulan captain's aura had gave him. ~Conversely the fact Captain. Rhian's aura indicted he had no knowledge of the Deck 5 explosion didn't make him any less dangerous to the Hades,~ thought Jon belatedly. ~ A slight change of orders from the Romulan High Command and Rhian could be our attacker rather than our escort, Great Spirit. I sure we could still give a good account for ourselves if we had to fight, but it was fight we couldn't win. We're In the process of major damage control, we don't have structural integrity on Deck 5 - and we're cut off from Federation protection now that we're so deep in Romulan space . . .~ Jon quit thinking about this particularly depressing train of dark rumination. ~There was nothing that I could do about the deplorable set of circumstances the Hades fines itself in.~ The only think I can do now is to trust in FO Lamar, Hades damage control and the Great Spirit, not necessarily in that order though;~. It was then that Jon realized that he baldly needed a break of some sort, even only a short one. He also needed to do something where he could feel better about his continued ability to cope with his imm3ediate circumstances, while helping out someone else simultaneously. Two names popped into Jon's mind at once, Brianna Frazier and Dr. Windsong. Both had extremely bad days. Frazier had tragically lost Ambassador Nolan and had been suddenly truss into a role she hadn't. expected. How did Bree feel about that, her being a half Beta Zed and all?. Dr. Windsong was the ship's CMO. It didn't take much imagination to picture what kind of ghastly day she'd had in Sickbay, especially having to treat her ship's captain. ~Make her up to the task of doing that, Great Spirit, as I don't know what the consequences would be if she were fail here, Gradfather!~ When he thought about Dr. Windsong, it suddenly occurred to Jon that they had nevertaken that second step in their dating walk. Jon resolved to render his humble assistance to both women immediately. Tapping his commbadge Jon said " Computer. Replicate a red rose, six pieces of Native American cornbread and small jar of strawberry honey. Send the replicated materials to Dr. Angeni Thrommeshere's' office replicator in Main Sickbay. Include a note saying. from Jon." [Working] replied the computer. A second later, [Replication completed and forwarded] Taping his commbadge a second time Jon said: "Brianna, this is Jon. You've had a trying day. is there anything I can do for you?" (Posted Jim McCrary) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 8, Temporary Quarters – Ambassador Brianna Frazier – 2227) Shortly after her exit from the bridge, Lieutenant Tarus had lead Bree to deck 7, where she had already been assigned some temporary quarters. The only thing she felt like doing right now was resting, and taking in the events of the past few hours. Not only had she been yanked away from her friend and mentor, Jericho Nolan, but she had been thrust into his role with little to no hesitation. ~The needs of the many...~ she tried to tell herself, but all she felt like doing was telling the galaxy to go to hell and let her grieve in peace. Left alone to her own thoughts, Bree sat in a small comfortable chair, facing a rectangular view port out into space. She held back a tear, thinking that she wanted to stay strong, but half of her didn’t see the point – especially now she was alone. =^=Brianna, this is Jon. You've had a trying day. Is there anything I can do for you?=^= A message came over the comm. system, and startled her. Quickly composing herself to speak, she said “Jon, thanks. I’m touched for your concern...” she cleared her throat, choking back her emotions as best she could. “...I’ll be fine this evening. But we’ll catch up tomorrow, okay?” (reply: Nayati) As the comm. channel closed, she let go of her self-control and began to sob quietly to herself. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 3, Personal Quarters - CCOUNS Ensign Jon Nayati – 2229) Jon had scarcely finished inquiring about whether or not Brianna Frazier needed any kind of therapeutic emotional support, when the she replied back. =^=Thanks, Jon. I'm touched. I'll be fine. But we'll get together tomorrow, ok?=^= Jon heard the obvious tremor in the woman's voice, and recognized the signs of grief and stress. These were emotions that Jon was becoming all too familiar with on the Hades recently. ~Such emotions are understandable, given the sudden, sharp turn of events Bree's personal and professional had taken within the last few hours. But there is nothing I can do, Great Spirit, until Brianna Frazier gives me permission to clinically intervene,~ Jon commented to himself, ruefully. "Very well, Ms Frazier," Jon said warmly, trying to hold back his own sadness. "But please, do not hesitate to call upon me should you need help. " (Posted by Jim McCrary) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 10, Sickbay - CMO Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere – 2229) Angeni had finally decided to let Wendy check her over. The young cherokee putted around the bay, trying to avoid the inevitable. She signaled to Wendy she had something in her office, and she walked in, noticing something in the replicator. A huge smile spread over her face as she saw the roses, and she picked one up, smelling the alluring fragrince. She stole a quick piece of cornbread, dipping a piece in honey as she read over her own chart. What she saw suprised even her. With what could only be described as an Anterior Wall Infarction due to the cardioversion she managed to heal from, the sections of dead tissue encroached upon her vagus nerve. Atropine would never work on her again, neither would vagus nerve stimulation. She pondered her treatement; what Wendy would do to her. Would she prescribe a constant regimine of Aspirin and Cardizem to help control the Atrial Fib her heart was in, or would the doc decide to go big instead of going home, and go for the Lasix, Cardizem, and Avalide? Surgery would be the end all recourse; 25th century technology would be more than adequate to take out the dead and dying tissue, and replace it with healthy stuff, but she wasn't so keen on the idea of having surgery on something so important to her. On the other hand, Wendy was a qualified doctor, so she decided to leave her care in someone elses hands. With a last note on the Captain's chart, she gave one of the nurses a few orders to keep him alive and kicking until she could get back to him after everything was done, then she turned to Wendy with a small smile. "Ready?" (Posted by Kari) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 10, Sickbay – ACMO Doctor Wendy Kildare – 2230) Wendy hadn’t expected it be so easy to get Angeni to agree to let her look at her injuries. If there was one thing that was notoriously more difficult than getting the Captain to come to sickbay for medical attention, it was getting the CMO herself to agree to treatment. Of course, Angeni was a lot more of free spirit than most that Wendy had worked with in the past, and to unreasonably refuse just wasn’t in her character. As Angeni took a moment to step into her office for something, Wendy readied herself. Taking a look over the charts for the CMO, she considered the types of treatment available. There was all manner of drugs that could be prescribed, not to mention a plethora of procedures she could carry out to treat the heart muscle directly. Wendy had some big decisions to make, and they could affect Angeni for the rest of her life. “Ready?” came a soft voice from behind. Wendy smiled and turned, a PADD in one hand, the other on her hip in quiet contemplation. “There’s no doubt about it Angeni, you need surgery to correct this long-term.” As she looked at the CMO, she was certain that she would have known that would be her final conclusion, certain that if the roles were reversed that Angeni would have come up with the same. (reply: Trommashere) Glancing down at the PADD again, and gesturing with her right hand she continued, “To be honest, I’m surprised that you’ve managed to get about with any of these types of injuries...” She looked up at the CMO and into her eyes, “...Overjoyed, but surprised all the same. If this were a text book case, you’d be in the morgue right now.” (reply: Trommashere) Realising that their circumstances were far from ideal right now, Wendy decided to finally deliver he verdict on the treatment. “We’re in no position to cope without you Angeni, so for now surgery is out of the question.” She smiled, hoping that she would be pleased with that, “But we do need to keep you under constant surveillance.” Turning briefly to retrieve something from the side, she held out her open palm toward the CMO, holding a small disc-like device for her to take. “You need to wear this at all times. I’ve already tied the feed into the main computer hear so it can monitor your cardiac levels.” (reply: Trommashere) “We’ll start with a steady course of Asinolyathin and Lectrazine to try and control your erratic heartbeat and keep your blood flowing, but we’ll just have to see how that goes.” She handed a hypospray to the CMO and asked, “Does that sound okay to you, Angeni?” she asked, hoping to meet with the approval of her friend and colleague. If she had her own opinions to add, she hoped it would be now. The soft whirr that seemed to be a given in any sickbay seemed to be booming in his ears and the soft lighting threatened to blind him. Norm blinked several times before giving up and holding his eyes shut with every muscle in his face that could be spared. He resisted the erge to blurt out his name, rank and cereal number all at once, especially since he couldn't quite manage to get his mouth around the words. He instead concentrated his energy on attempting to feel his leg. He couldn't exactly remember what had happened, but he was well aware of the endorphins blocking the joint from his conscious. He made an attempt to bend the knee - a move that he immediately regretted. He bit his lower lip, fought back the tears of pain and attempted to open his eyes to the light. Above the sound of the mechanics, Norm could make out the sound of a low, pained groan, and it took him a while to identify the sound as his own. He muffled the sound and began to remind himself of the bliss of sleep. ~Go back to sleep, boy.~ His mind's voice sounded almost exactly like his father's and it made Norm want to be sick. If there was anybody he did not want to be thinking about at this point, it was that man. It was too Norm's dismay that he looked so much like like his father, so that every time he looked in the mirror he saw the face of a man who he hated. The sound of the voice was an intrusion he did not welcome. He balled his hand into a fist and tried to remember how to talk. Why wouldn't they merge and become speach? Frustrated, Norm clenched his eyes shut and cursed loudly in his head. This silence and the unability to sleep or fill the noiselessness only left room for thoughts and memories Norm did not want. He concentrated on the words he wanted to say most. ~What happened... what happened... what...happened...what..." He thumped his fist into the bed next to him and stared, wild-eyed at the ceiling. Baylon Trinin – 0530) Baylon stepped out of the shower still tingling from the warmth that he had just experienced. It was silly to be certain, but he still felt 'cold' despite the fact that he knew that it was a comfortable temperature in the room and that the water had been almost too hot to stand. He was sure that it was a psychological side affect of the frozen near-death experience that he suffered just yesterday, and despite his experiences on the frozen surface of Andoria, he did not seem to be immune from some of those type of subconscious thoughts that perhaps were plaguing him now. He shivered involuntarily and already goose bumps were forming on the surface of his skin as he crossed the floor to his closet. Ranae had joined him for a night's rest and she was at the moment still sleeping, most likely a result of the long duty shift she had worked the night before. Baylon, slid the door open with a soundless touch of a button and removed a thick cotton robe from the closet. He slipped it on over his shoulders and tied the draw around his waist. Then he moved over to the overstuffed chair and dropped down into it for a few moments. He sat there watching Ranae sleep. Thinking a great many things about his, her and their collective future. She was so peaceful there, with the blankets wrapped around her naked body. Her chest rising and falling in perfect rhythm. He noted that her hair was a bit tussled, from a little bit of tossing and turning, and he smiled. It was a little uncommon to see her so angelically peaceful, when she was always such a fireball of passion and energy when she was awake. Absently, he rubbed the stump of his missing pinkie finger with his thumb. It seemed to itch at the tip, but of course the tip, along with the rest of the finger was gone. Baylon simply regarded the space where the digit had once resided and frowned. Losing his finger was a small price to pay for the privilege of remaining alive. Ranae rolled over and Baylon's eyes caught the motion and watched as she settled back into a silent state of being. Again he was amazed at how relaxed and peaceful she seemed to be and he smiled. With the unfortunate demise of the ACEO, and with the injury of the Chief, there wasn’t really anyone left to organise things in engineering. A few had tried, but they had lacked the lateral thinking, not to mention the confidence from the rest of the team, to get the job done. The result was a half-assed effort at repairs that the First Officer would be royally p**sed about when he received his report at the briefing this morning. Dana Travis happened to have a little more about her than most, thankfully for the condition of the Hades, and she had managed to rally enough spirit in the engineering staff to actually get some of the necessary work done. Sure, some had challenged her orders – claiming that they knew better, or that their rank was higher – but with Debbie Weston at her side, paired with her own wild temper, no-one had the guts to challenge their authority – especially since Weston’s dead-arms were legendary! “Jefferson, get this over to the team heading to deck 5,” she said, not looking up from her console and handing a PADD off to the side. “What’s that Travis?” asked Jefferson, moving in to take the PADD from her. “Breakfast order?” He grinned, but instantly saw that Dana Travis was not in a laughing mood thing morning. He rolled his eyes, raised his eyebrows briefly then took the PADD from her without further comment. “It’s what they need to focus on in Section 6. Clearing that debris is our priority if we’re going to get temporary bulkheads in place and restore structural integrity.” She looked up and gave a serious stare to Jefferson, who was already regretting asking anything at all. =^=Lt Jackson to Engineering - please reply=^= As the comm. signal sounded, at first Dana didn’t respond. She was busy with other things, and technically she wasn’t in charge. She wouldn’t be expected to answer the call. After a few moments of silence, Dana looked up and looked around. Eye were focused on her, but as she looked at them they quickly got back to what they were doing. ~I guess it’s me then~ she thought as she tapped her comm. badge and replied, “Go ahead Lieutenant.” =^=I would like to coordinate some repairs we think need to be performed and would like your advice=^= With a smile, Dana actually stopped what she was doing for just a moment. “Another set of hands would be great right now Lieutenant.” Instantly she shooed Jefferson toward the small team that were about to leave for deck 5 and said, “I’m just about to send another team up to Deck 5, Section 6. We need to clear that debris and get replacement bulkheads in place so we can reinitialise the structural integrity fields.” Looking at Jefferson, he was peering back at her with a weak smile. ~I guess you’re going to get your explanation after all~ and she continued, “The instability in that section is compromising the entire field system.” She shook her head and an image of the Hades in battle flashed into her mind, structural integrity failing and the ship literally falling apart at the seams. “If we had to get into any sort of fire fight, that section is our thorn in the side. We need to clean it out and stick a band aid on it.” (reply: Jackson) Walking toward a small group of engineers that was her team about to head off, she started to wave them out of the door. If she could get close enough, she might have even kicked them up the bums. “My team is on its way there. If you have anyone that can specialise in matter recycling it would be a great assist.” She knew the best way to move the debris was to dematerialise it and store it as energy in the ships power supply. Even during the time he spent living in bands of freedom-fighters around the hills of Bajor, things that needed to be done had been to the best of their ability. The Frenchman, for once, could think of nothing to say. He stood, legs shoulder-width apart in the center of the lift waiting for the motion to stop so he could step out. He tapped his figers inpatiently on his hip. Finally it came to a halt. Henri nodded and silently wished there was someone to ask for orders. ~What would Chief Harper say?~ The Frenchman thought to himself. He had nearly forgotten about his scolding from the chief. It was so long ago, and Henri had the memory of a puppy and no ability to stay angry. "Oua," he spoke finally, "ve could recycle some of the debris." Apparently the Romulans were letting them maintain access to the public communications net. Very generous of them. "You know Captain, maybe I should just start promoting myself a rank for every day you lie there." Not that she was aware of much advantage of being a chief petty officer over a crewman. It's not like she paid much attention to rank anyway, it'd just be nice to write home and say "Nyah!" to her brothers. The PADD beeped and she started in on the happenings of Fleet. "Oh dear." She said reviewing. "Interesting that they've sent us to Romulus while a witch hunt goes through the 52nd." Denise wondered just how separated the fleet had become before SFI started searching for scape goats. Denise started reading the article to her comatose captain, hoping somewhere in there he was noting it. It was information he'd certainly need when he came through. At least the FNN hadn't been gagged this time, but it really seemed they'd swung out of the light and right back into the darkness again. He had managed to get back to his quarters for 0400 last night, and Wendy Kildare had finally returned at a similar time. The two of them had spoken very little, but Jonas was just glad that she had been safe and sound, so with little energy to do anything else, they had gone straight to bed and tried to sleep. Jonas was sure that Wendy was out like a light, but he had only managed to close his eyes and think about what was still left to complete the following day. The mission was going ahead, although not quite as originally planned. Now, without the yeas of valuable experience of Jericho Nolan, not to mention the years of experience of Devan Sash, Jonas was more than a little concerned about the outcome of the mission. Brianna Frazier however, she had appeared very confident in her own abilities. Jonas suspected this might have been a front, but then he didn’t really know her well enough to make that judgement. He just hoped she was as good as she thought she was, for the fate of the Federation’s future in the Beta Quadrant was in their hands. Giving up on the concept of sleep entirely, Jonas had gotten up at 0600 and made his way to the holodecks – unsure if there would even be a free suite available. He had been sure that his command privileges could buy him half an hour of something to make him wide awake and alert. Luckily, a team of scientists were just vacating one room for the next few hours, so Jonas had taken his chance and pulled out his favourite holodeck program. But with all that now behind him, Jonas was dressed and back in his office, trying to make some sort of order out of the chaos that was his office. It seemed that the entire administration area had taken a hit aesthetically, and although no actual systems were damaged, there was a hell of a mess to clear up. “Jase,” said Jonas disappointedly as he first entered the office to find the PADD organisation not quite up to scratch. Jason Miller was crouched in one corner, picking up a pile of something. He looked up with his cheeky grin and said, “It’s a new style sweeping the ship. It’s a Klingon take on Feng Sui, do you like?” Jonas raised his brow as he entered, stepping over three PADDs that were scattered on the floor there. “I just don’t think it’s very me.” He made his way over to the desk, which was equally messy. “Do you have anything ready for me?” Jonas looked around, hopeful that Jason had managed to get time to work him out some sort of schedule. Miller stopped what he was doing and stood up. “Well, since you asked so nicely,” he started, picking up a PADD from a nearby shelf that he had prepared earlier. He handed the PADD to Jonas and said, “I’ve taken the liberty of transferring all your files to the Ready Room for the time being, at least until we get things straight down here.” ~There you go~ Jonas smiled, “I knew I could rely on you Jase.” Jonas looked over the PADD. There was a lot of visiting different departments across the ship planned for today. Jonas understood the importance to show his face to as much of the crew as possible. No doubt they would have questions, about the accident and about the Captain. He would do his best to be a sympathetic ear, but it changed very little. They all had a job to do, and it was Jonas’s job to remind everyone of that. “In that case,” he began, starting to make his way out of the office. “I’ll be in the Ready Room if you need me.” Jason turned and call out, “Don’t forget...” “...the briefing. I know!” Jonas laughed a little, uncertain of how he could exactly forget – especially considering he had called the briefing. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 10, Sickbay – Ensign Dana Travis & Crewman Debbie Weston – 0857) Dana Travis was a woman on strong resolve. She had an eye for detail, and a passion for engineering, and when she had her mind set on something, she never gave up on it until she achieved whatever it was she was doing. Despite that attitude, she knew how to let her hair down and how to enjoy herself. A job was just monotonous if there wasn’t any joy in it, so she made she knew how to have a laugh around the workplace. It was that side of her personality that led her to become close to Debbie Weston. Ever since she had come aboard, Dana had clicked with her so easily, and often the two had gone on jobs together and generally made a good team. But there were times, when Dana wasn’t in the mood for laughing, that she just became more and more frustrated with Debbie. ~Could she ever take anything seriously?~ she often thought to herself. Dana had a lot on her mind, ad where she seemed to let it weight her down, Debbie Weston was such a free spirit that it didn’t seem like anything bothered her. It was as if everything slipped off her – like she had a personal shield or something – it was actually something Dana was a little jealous of. This morning was one of those times. Ever since Travis had called on her, Weston had been her usual fun loving self, bright and bubbly, making fun of some kind that only served to wind up Dana more and more. Dana could think of nothing more than the state of Engineering, how with the CEO and ACEO out of action little would have been done if it weren’t for the efforts of herself and Weston – with Alex Turner too of course. Weston just seemed to be excited for another day crawling around the engine room. So, when the duo had arrived in sickbay, Weston had not taken the visit very seriously at all. She knew the Chief had been sick, but also guessed that the doc would have him back on his feet any time soon. She noticed clearly the black cloud over Dana’s head today, but she was determined not to let it spoil HER day. They approached the biobed that just about managed to house the giant lanky chief engineer. “So hey boss, when are you going to get back to work?” asked Debbie cheekily, “I only ask as Travis was wondering, see, she thinks you’re just here skiving while she’s doing all the hard work.” Debbie turned at Dana just in time to receive a sharp elbow to her side. Travis knew that Weston had an evil side to her, but in her opinion she often went too far. “That’s not what I said, sir.” She shook her head and straightened out her frown as she looked at the chief engineer who already looked a lot better than he had been. “I simply said things were tough, without you around. With Ensign Thomas...” ~dying~ she couldn’t bring herself to say it. Instead she hesitated and continued, “...not being around, we need someone to rally the troops. I’ve been trying to fill in...” “...so have I sir” chimed in Debbie, finding the humour in the situation even when it wasn’t clear that anything was a laughing matter. Travis shot Weston another death stare before continuing, “With no CEO or ACEO things are just half-organised chaos.” Before his accident, Travis had noticed Harper being increasingly irritable and sharp. She hoped that Weston’s jovial tone would result in lightening the chief’s mood, and not the opposite. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 2, Admin Centre – Yeoman Jason Miller – 0902) Miller had been hard at work in the admin centre for over an hour now. He had started with the easiest and more important task of cleaning up the mess that was the First Officer’s office. Unlike the main Admin centre, the suspended ceiling had not collapsed, however there was still enough of a mess to qualify as disorganised – one of Jason’s least favourite words. Jonas Lemar had been there not long ago, and Jason was thankful that he had actually managed to get rid of the worst of it, and with a quick fix of shoving the First Officer up in the ready room, he cleared the office once more so he could continue his work. Right now, he had moved out into the admin centre and was in the process of instructing a few other crewmen and Petty Officers on the removal of the old ceiling. Just as he was admiring the bare bulkhead roofing to the room and thinking how it was about time the rustic look came back in, it dawned on him that hadn’t seen Denise since they went their separate ways last night. ~This is unlike her~ he thought, not used to seeing an Admin Centre with a Lebranski to rule the roost. ~I bet she hasn’t done any prep for the briefing either~ he thought, wondering if she even knew about it. “She hasn’t been hurt I hope...” Jason said out loud, unintentionally. “Who’s that Jase? Her Maj?” joked one of the crewman with his arms full of debris that he was carrying out into the corridor. “Last I heard they were trying to get her out of sickbay.” “I heard she kicked down four security guards and barricaded the door so she could stay with the Captain,” said another crewman in all seriousness. “Don’t be so ridiculous,” said Jason, dismissing the comments entirely. He turned and started to pick up an overturned console screen, looking around for a desk the right way up to place it. “Yeah, come on man! It was only three!” said the first crewman. The two of them started laughing as they walked out into the corridor. Jason put the monitor down a the first flat surface he came across. “Yeah well, there is work to be done,” he said quietly, turning to see what else he could pick up from the floor. All of a sudden there was a loud crash, and as Jason spun to see what it was he saw the monitor he had just put down, tumbling back to the floor along with the table he had thought to have been stable. The monitor landed with a crash and sparks began to fly – a large crack appearing in the centre of the screen. “Just great!” said Jason, throwing his arms up in the air. Shaking his head he tapped his comm. badge and said, “Miller to Lebranski. Where are you? I need you!” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 10, Sickbay - Crewman Denise Lebranski - 0903) Denise had been relaying damage reports, repair plans and section reports to the comatose Captain when Jason's frustrated voice broke in. Boy, wouldn't it be nice if a man said those words to her in a completely different context? She couldn't even remember the last time she'd gone dancing. Maybe this shipboard life wasn't all it was cracked up to be. (Reply Miller) Denise shook her head, suppressing a sigh, "No, I'll be on my way up. I don't think I'm doing any good here anyway." The Captain had stabilized overnight, but he'd shown no indication he was registering anything outside his body. She was probably just an irritating buzzing noise anyway. "Is there anything you need between here and there?" She was pretty sure the sickbay staff would be happy to see her go. The doctors didn't seem to care one way or the other since she was very careful to stay out of their way and not disrupt their work. (Reply Miller) "On my way." She replied, wishing she could feel some enthusiasm for work, but all she felt was bone weary. She hadn't slept and probably looked like crap. Her voice felt worn and her eyelids heavy. She picked up the chair she'd pilfered from the lab and carried it out of sickbay, planning on returning it before returning to her home away from home. His initial thought was to tell her to snap out of it, and that moping around wasn’t going to do anything – but he figured a more subtle approach might be necessary to coax her Majesty back to work. “What are your plans, are you going to stay with the Captain?” Jason hoped she would decline – he really needed her help right now. There was almost a small sigh before the response came through, =^=No, I'll be on my way up. I don't think I'm doing any good here anyway. When Ranae had finally gone off duty after pulling a double shift, she'd gone directly to Baylon's quarters, they'd spent a little time over a late supper and chatting about their day, more specifically about what had transpired. When an exhausted Baylon had headed for bed, Ranae had told him she'd be there as soon as she could, but unfortunately she had a report to make for the meeting in the morning, so she'd spent the next hour or so completing one together about the Romulan Warbird, and then completely exhausted herself, she had crawled in to bed beside her lover and snuggled up against him to sleep. Although it was supposed to be a day off for Ranae, she was sure that something would crop up that would require her attention, unless she got lucky. He still hadn't been back to his quarters, though he had managed a few snacks on a granite and igneous rock mix. He had been careful to not salivate any acid on the deck of the bridge. Working around the clock with various shifts of personnel of both OPS and Engineering, he had feverishly coordinated efforts to set the ship to rights as much as was possible. He was unhappy that so many had died due to this problem with the chips. He had searched the OPS and Engineering logs carefully prepatory to this meeting and could not find any mention of faulty chips in the power busses. Either no one had known that the chips were faulty and it had been a matter of time before an overload were to occur or they had a saboteur onboard. Neither choice sat well with Maraht, but he knew he had to accept the facts. Despondency settling over him like a stifling mountain of blankets, Maraht quietly took his place at the table. He noted the presence of the others and was glad that Ammon Ranae and Baylon Trinin were well. He silently gave a single wave of acknowledgment to them all with his main phalange. It was an important night, in which he spent much time thanking the Prophets that things turned out as well as they did. Many peoples’ lives had been saved last night, by the actions of the few, and Tarus truly believed that it was because the Prophets had been watching and guiding them all, that they had managed to accomplish what they had done. He had awoken this morning relatively fresh, and not at all stiff like he had expected. It was a sign that he was truly in good shape, that all that climbing, lifting and what-not had not really affected him. So now he was back on duty and ready to attend the briefing that the First Officer had called the previous day. Ordinarily he wouldn’t have attended, but with the Chief in sickbay last night, he thought he should try and attend, just in case Trinin was still bed ridden – besides, he felt it necessary for his small team to escort the remaining members of the diplomatic team to the briefing. The first to come out to the corridor was Aide Kolar. She had marched out almost military-style, a trouser suit fitted well and ready to get down to no-nonsense business. “Good Morning,” Tarus had said in greeting. “Good morning Lieutenant,” she had replied before moving to knock on the door of her counter-part, Raizel Grem. Tarus had been a little concerned at first when he was unable to locate her during the chaos of the previous evening; however she had turned up a little after 11 on general sweep of deck 7 and 8. Relaxing in a crew lounge though the whole ordeal, she had left her comm. badge in her quarters. Given that these were on deck 5, it accounted for why the computer was unable to locate her. Still, she was safe now and that’s all Tarus cared for. As Raizel Grem opened her door and stepped out into the corridor, she too seemed ready for business. Her hair looked immaculate, blonde and straight and not a single strand out of place. Her skin seemed like perfection, and with touch of colouring here and there she had only managed to enhance her already beautiful features. “We’re not seeing the Romulans now Raizel,” started Paris with a roll of her eyes. Next to arrive was Brianna Frazier. She seemed the far more relaxed and bubbly of the trio. “Not late am I?” she asked joyfully. “No madam Ambassador,” replied Tarus. “If you would all like to follow me, the briefing will start in a little under ten minutes.” Brianna Frazier almost seemed like she was looking forward to it. She eagerly joined her two colleagues and followed the security officers to the nearest turbolift. It was reading those names again and realizing how many people those deaths were going to affect that had turned his otherwise excellent meal into the taste of powered bones and burned ashes. He had just completed the necessary referrals for the grief counseling and follow up therapy when his commbadge chirped and informed him of the senior officers meeting in the Observation Lounge. Jon left the half eaten remains of his breakfast with the mess hall servers and walked, with leaden feet, to the Observation Lounge where he saw FO Jonas Lamar, Lt Maraht and all the other seniors officers that were already seated.. Windsong-Trommashere - 0953) The youngwoman tossed and turned fittfully in bed. Sweat glistened over her brow, her heart racing. With a screech, she sat up, breathing hard. She looked around the darkened room and sighed. ~Again...?~ She stood up, realizing that she was about to be very late for the staff meeting, so with a quickness, she bathed and dressed, running out the door to the Observation Lounge. (Posted by Kari) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Observation Lounge – EO Ensign Dana Travis – 0956) Such a long day, and it was only just before ten. Dana had felt like she hadn’t had any sleep at all, and although she liked to be kept busy, or even worked better under pressure, this was something different – something she wasn’t used to. That said, so far she had managed to keep he head above water and keep things moving as best she could, but she needed to speak with the First Officer about it all. Things just weren’t as good as they could be. She had received a message from the Commander about the meeting approximately an hour ago. It had been while she was on her way back to Engineering from Sickbay. Apparently, because of her hard work in getting the power back to saucer engineering, he wanted to hear a report from her in front of the rest of the senior staff. Debbie had of course snubbed her nose up at her, claiming that it was her who did all the work, but when Dana invited her to tag along, Debbie had said she would rather go crawl in a Jefferies tube somewhere. Arriving just a few minutes before the meeting was due to start, Dana entered the Observation lounge with no small amount of trepidation. She had never been part of this crowd before and wondered what they might think of her. Smiling at the familiar faces she recognised, she made her way to an empty seat. “Glad you could make it Ensign,” said the First Officer briefly as she entered. He smiled at her and watched her as she moved to take the seat. She sat down and looked at her dataPADD, bringing up as much information as she could think might be necessary. She then began to go over it in her mind, reciting the words like they were a script. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Observation Lounge – CSEC Lt. Baylon Trinin – 0958) Baylon strode into the observation lounge a little later than he'd prefer. The room was almost filled by the officers that had arrived before him. With a nod, he moved over and took a seat next to Ranae. This morning had been filled with the details of setting up an alternate set of offices for the security department. With the help of Operations and engineering, a hardly used storage bay on deck 10 was transformed into a fully functional set of security offices within the span of a couple of hours. he had decided to leave the investigation in the capable hands of T'Sol at least from the security standpoint. He had seen a preliminary report already, and it seemed to him to be a sabotage cleverly disguised as a series of faulty power distribution chips. He couldn't believe that Norman's engineers did not test the chips prior to installation. he found it even more unlikely since Crewman Walker could identify the faulty chip at a glance, meaning that the other engineers could have as well. This, of course, coupled with the unaccounted for location of the Ambassador's aide Raizel Grem, left Baylon with a very unpalatable sense of dread. He himself had considered that there could be a spy inside the ambassador's entourage. The problem was that the Romulans were clever enough to point him in the direction of a possible patsy while their own agent went unhindered. In other words, Raizel Grem's apparent guilt may be nothing more than an elaborate set up and there could be another spy in their midst using her as a smoke screen. Or to make matters more convoluted, She really could be the spy in the first place. Baylon sighed as he thought about it. He'd have to increase the security contingent for the ambassadorial party even more now. He just couldn't take the chance that she was a spy. it was bad enough that Ambassador Nolan had been killed and the Captain seriously injured, if not in danger of death. As security chief it was his responsibility to protect the personnel on his ship to the best of his ability. Apparently his ability was not up to the challenge. He turned to look at Commander Lemar and gave him a brief nod as he waited for the meeting to begin. (Posted by Daniel Greene) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 1, Observation Lounge - A/COPS Lt Tom Jackson - 0958) Tom arrived shortly before the meeting started looking a bit disheveled. Plopping down in an empty chair Tom thought ~ Hard work being an Engineer~ and waited for the others to arrive. The others looked as tired as he did with the exception of Maraht. The Hortan didn't look any different but it was hard to tell given he looked like a living rock. Glancing down at his padds, Jackson thought about the Co and the loss of the Ambassador. He wondered if the mission would be scrubbed - he doubted it but at this point who knew? T.J also wondered about Devan Sash - not much information was available. He entered the room and looked about at the faces. He had never done this before, but something told him, since he had been with the chief until he could at last get him to sick bay, that he should be there. He turned his head to the FO. "The CEO is unable to attend," The Bajoran said plainly, "I am here in his stead." She told him, giving him a saucy wink. Baylon returned the smile, already imagining the not quite veiled innuendo. It gave him goose bump and a slight tremble down his spine. "It's quite alright. I enjoyed watching you sleep." he whispered back to her. He adjusted his seating, placing the PADD he had brought in front of him and absently rubbed the stub of the missing finger with his thumb. It was odd how it felt like the tip was itching slightly. Maybe there was a problem with it and he should see a doctor. The good doctor was a picture of red skinned, lab coated beauty, simultaneously disheveled and unbelievably lovely. In spite of himself, Jon found that look on Windsong endearing and incredibly sexy at the same time. Angeni's professional look was that of a primal red maiden just barely covered by the thin veneer of 25th century clinical science. As she drew near and sat down, Jon remembered another image of her. He clearly recalled seeing her on the holodeck they had once shared together. That day, he had seen an image of a primal, wild, beautiful Indian maiden dressed in fringed white leather buckskin, her long black hair beaded and drawn down behind her back nearly to her narrow waist. At that time, there had been so much death and pain around them, that now Jon wished nothing more than to see Windsong in that way again, even if only for the slightest of moments. As Dr. Trommashere's lovely self alighted beside Jon, she softly whispered in his ear, "Sorry I'm late, thanks for the roses." As she spoke, Angeni's aura showed the same intense red hue that Jon had seen emanating from body when they had shared her holodeck program. It seemed ages ago. Jon nodded and whispered back, "I was hoping you would enjoy them." As he spoke, Jon quietly dropped his hand below the conference table, hoping that Angeni would understand gesture he offered and take it in hers. (Posted by Jim McCrary) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Observation Lounge – FO Commander Jonas Lemar – 0959.5) Although it wasn’t ideal, Jonas had settled into the Ready Room nicely. Jason Miller had already transferred much of the data he would need to sort through before the briefing, such as last minute department reports and damage control updates. When the time had come, he decided to go to the Observation Lounge and await the rest of his senior staff there. One of the first to arrive had been Shayhiloosh, the Arborian science officer. Jonas had smiled over at hir as s/he had moved over to an empty spot and curled up hir roots around hir trunk. The Arborian had bounced an eyestalk in his direction, there mere act brightening Jonas’s face before he looked back to study his dataPADD. Slowly but surely, more of the senior staff arrived, including Lieutenant’s Maraht and Ammon. As he watched Maraht shuffle up to the desk, he saw Ammon Ranae enter bright and breezy. Both officers seemed to be pre-occupied with something, which Jonas had no doubt would be drawn out of them during the briefing. Soon, Ensign Dana Travis entered the room, looking a little lost. Jonas smiled up at her and said, “Glad you could make it Ensign,” he said, trying his best to make her feel at ease. Jonas had thought earlier in the morning that he needed to do something about the Engineering department and its spiralling state of play. It seemed that those in charge of the Engineering section had suddenly developed a suicidal streak, what with the action of the now deceased ACEO Mattrim Thomas, who had deep fried himself in an attempt to save the ship, and then the actions of the CEO Norman Harper, who had done something equally as reckless for the same reasons. Luckily for Harper, he had survived the ordeal, but he was holed up in sickbay for the foreseeable future. The last of the senior staff filed through the doors, including Lieutenant Tarus with Ambassador Frazier in tow. The trio of ladies had each smiled pleasantly and settled themselves at the opposite end of the table to Jonas. He had nodded politely to each in turn, indicating that Lieutenant Tarus could step outside for the remainder of the meeting. As the security officer acknowledged him and moved away, Jonas was about to commence the briefing, but as the doors opened to allow Tarus to exit, a Bajoran engineer took the opportunity to enter. Turning his head briefly toward Jonas he said, “The CEO is unable to attend, I am here in his stead.” Jonas raised an eyebrow. ~Things might be worse than I thought~ he thought to himself, wondering if any of the other engineering staff ‘just fancied’ stopping by at the briefing. Glancing briefly to Ensign Travis, he looked at the Engineer and said, “Thank you Ensign. I am aware of the condition of Chief Harper and had asked Ensign Travis to attend instead, however, feel free to join us.” He indicated to an empty seat close to Dana Travis. ~She might do well to sit close to someone she knows better~ As the engineer seated himself, Jonas prepared to start the meeting. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Observation Lounge – FO Commander Jonas Lemar – 1000) Jonas swivelled in his seat a little, looking round at all the faces present. There was a mixture of fresh and tired faces, and he wasn’t sure right now which category he fitted into. Trying not to think about that too much, Jonas decided to jump in with both feet. “I know some of you are tired and that a lot of you have been through a great deal in the past twelve hours, but I’m sure I don’t need to remind you all that the ship took a potentially crippling blow last night, and it’s thanks to the skills and effort of this crew that we managed to survive and recover.” “For those of you who didn’t know, we crossed into Romulan space at approximately 2300 hours last night, and we now know for certain that we are not alone.” Jonas pressed a button on his PADD and the lights dimmed a little. A holographic display in the centre of the table depicted a green wire-frame version of the IWS Donatra, spinning slowly on an axis. “Lieutenant Ammon, what do we know about our escort?” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades - Deck 1, Observation Lounge - CTAC Lt. Ammon Ranae - 1003) Called upon to give her report Ranae rose, and moving to the wall display, plugged her PADD into the receptacle to quickly download the pertinent data while the aCO brought up a large 3-dimensional holographic picture of the IWS Donatra in the centre of the table depicting it as a green wire-frame version. Slowly it rotated on an axis presenting all sides to the viewers. "This is a Romulan's D'vorx-class Valdore Warbird, one of it's newest ships constructed since the Dominion Wars to eliminate some of the shortfalls discovered during the interstellar battles. It is massive compared to the Hades, and is a Heavy Cruiser weighing some 3,905,000 metric tons and with carries over 5000 people, the last thing we would want is aggressive boarders. It is heavily armed and armored, hugely out gunning us so she makes a very strong adversary. However, being so large it is much slower in maneuvering. We could virtually fly circles around it, and I believe with our capacity for tri-vector mode, three smaller vessels could defeat it using hit and run tactics, and concentrating on it's weaker points. Sting her like killer bees and we would prevail." ~At least until more come at us!~ Ranae pushed a button on the wall control panel causing the holographic image to also rotate slowly showing it's top and bottom as well as the view from the sides and highlighted the areas she thought were it's weaker points: It's nacelles, it's 6 torpedo bays and the Bridge. "I consider these are the main areas concentrated fire power would damage quicker. If we can get some shots into those torpedo launchers they would detonate the ones waiting for launch and cause horrendous explosions inside the ship, and of course we all know what can happen when a ship loses its nacelles(s). We also have some smaller vessels aboard that could be utilized for attack, or even as mobile bombs if it was necessary, which would substantually increase our firepower and likelihood of victory." The CTAC lifted a glass of water and took a sip before continuing. "I also suspect that the Donatra has some secrets. I find it strange that our scanners picked up no sign of a cloaked ship and that we were unaware of it's presence until it had de-cloaked. If it does have advanced cloaking abilities it stands to reason it probably isn't the only one. For all we know we could be surrounded by other Romulan ships and are none the wiser." (posted by Sal) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Observation Lounge – FO Commander Jonas Lemar – 1005) Satisfied that they had covered all that was necessary of the Romulan vessel for the time being, Jonas decided to raise the lights and continue with the briefing. “Thank you Lieutenant,” he said. Looking around at the Engineering and Operations officers that were present, he decided he would next ask about the condition of the ship. Jonas knew that the OPS Chief had been hard at work all night, and wouldn’t have been surprised if he learned he had not yet rested since the events of the previous evening. He was also aware that Jackson had been spending a lot of time with the Engineering teams on deck 5, clearing away the debris so they could get back to some degree of normal operation. Seeing as there was a clear senior officer present, Jonas looked over at Maraht to find out what their current state of play was. “Lieutenant Maraht, can you give us the latest on the damage reports?” Jonas looked over to the Horta with a keen interest. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Observation Lounge – FO Commander Jonas Lemar – 1010) Content with the reports from both Operations and Engineering, Jonas turned next to Lieutenant Trinin for a security update. He knew only too well that the Security Chief had been close to losing his life this time yesterday, and it was only the efforts of Lieutenant Jackson, Lieutenant Carrow and their team that the Chief had survived the ordeal. With that in mind, he knew that the security chief might not be on top of things as he might usually be – but then, Lieutenant Trinin was extremely dedicated to his job. He had probably been awake for hours catching up on their situation. “Lieutenant Trinin, how are you feeling today?” Jonas asked, the doctor in him taking over for just a moment. (reply: Trinin) “And is there any word on the investigation into the cause of all this?” Jonas asked, curious as to whether this was all accidental, of if they did indeed have a saboteur like the rumours would have him believe. (reply: Trinin) “How does this affect our current security measures for the Ambassador’s team?” Jonas looked over to Brianna Frazier, he red curls glistening a little in the light. “I take it you have taken necessary precautions to keep them safe from anything like this in the future?” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Observation Lounge – CSEC Lt. Baylon Trinin – 1012) The meeting started without delay and Jonas didn't waste any time getting into the meat of things. He had advised everyone that the Hades was now officially inside Romulan space, which was news to Baylon, although not unexpected. Ranae gave a detailed briefing on their Romulan escort ship, which left Baylon wondering if there was truly only one escort or if there may well be a second vessel cloaked somewhere nearby. Of course if there had been any indication that there was a second ship, she would have mentioned it. Next up was the ship's status report. It was not as bad as he'd thought, but then again his impression was heavily biased by the fact that he had nearly frozen-to-death in the incident. Then Lemar turned to the matter of security. “Lieutenant Trinin, how are you feeling today?” Jonas asked. "Well sir, thank you." Baylon replied. “And is there any word on the investigation into the cause of all this?” Jonas asked. Baylon tapped a few buttons on his display. The lights in the room lowered and the primary display screen activated. An engineering diagram of the Hades portion of the vessel appeared and rotated slowly in a clockwise motion. He tapped another button and a series of angry red dots began blinking in clusters throughout the specs. "These red dots signify the locations of the faulty chips that engineering recovered after the incident. These chips are standard and are used in every single primary power distribution node on the ship." He tapped a couple more buttons and a large number of green dots appeared. "The green dots are the locations of the same ship type that were not faulty. You'll notice that the red clusters are positioned in critical primary power junctions. Any one or more of which could cause significant damage to the ship if they were to fail." "In this case the one that failed was destined to do so because of the nature of the power buildup. Which did not touch the other buses. That power build up originated somewhere in main engineering, most likely in the conduit route that Ensign Thomas and Chief Harper were involved in defusing once the situation became apparent to them." "The chip's themselves," Baylon said tapping another series of buttons on the console in front of him. The images of the chips took place on the screen there were two chips displayed side-by-side. They were recognizably different. And I find it unlikely that this many faulty chips could be installed accidentally by six different trained engineers when they are readily identifiable as faulty. The chip on the left is a standard power relay chip, found on every major subsystem on just about every Federation Starship built in the last 150 years. The chip on the right is one of the chips that was recovered by our engineering teams once Crewman Walker realized that they were bad" "Ensign T'Sol has run the serial numbers of the chips against the central engineering database and has found that these same chips were installed aboard the USS Thomas Moore, four months ago. She had a discussion with the Chief Engineer of that vessel who has confirmed that his chips are in fact the ones assigned, that they are not faulty and that they have each been visually accounted for." "That leads me to the conclusion that this was a deliberate act of sabotage." "I have looked over the engineering maintenance logs for those affected buses, and compared the Isolinear chip serial numbers that are recorded by the engineering crews during their routine maintenance, and not a single one of the faulty chips appear on the maintenance records. The last maintenance check was conducted on Stardate 2407.12.31, three standard days ago, which means that whomever changed those chips has done so within the last three days." "We've searched through all the replicator logs and compared them and the raw materials needed to produce them or reclaim them and have determined that it is unlikely that they were manufactured aboard ship and that they have not been reclaimed. That means that they were brought aboard and still remain on board." "Ensign T'Sol is currently reviewing all internal sensor logs for the last week to see if we can track down a culprit or generate a suspect worthy of questioning. Additionally since the materials had to be brought aboard. I have asked Operations to review all the transporter logs for the last month to see if we could determine if they were beamed aboard prior to the saboteur or if we are lucky in the possession of the saboteur. It will be slow going, as there is a lot of data to sort through." "It is my belief that if we find those chips, we will find ample evidence to point directly to the saboteur." “How does this affect our current security measures for the Ambassador’s team?” Jonas looked over to Brianna Frazier “I take it you have taken necessary precautions to keep them safe from anything like this in the future?” The First Officer asked. "Lieutenant Tarus has been instructed to increase the security details of the ambassadorial staff to ensure that we will not have another incident where we will not be able to locate a member of the delegation, such as what happened to Aide Grem. And to prevent any delay in rendering aide as was apparent with Ambassador Nolan." Baylon paused for a few moments. "No member of the Ambassadorial staff will be permitted out of their personal cabins without a security escort. If any member of the ambassadorial staff should 'forget' their commbadges," Baylon looked pointedly at Grem, "they will be restricted to their quarters and the official locations to perform their tasks for the duration of their time aboard ship. We can not afford another incident, especially now that we are in Romulan space." "That's all I have, sir." (reply Lamar, any) As Baylon sat he raised the lights and cleared the display monitor. ~Let's see if we can flush out a saboteur.~ he thought. (posted by Daniel Greene) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Observation Lounge – FO Commander Jonas Lemar – 1018) A lot had already been covered, but he had two other things he needed to ask. He glanced over to the science-types that were present. He looked briefly at the new Ensign, Kenny McKenzie, and smiled. “Lieutenant Carrow, I take it you have chance to get acquainted with your new ASCO?” (reply: Carrow) To Jonas, the science department was fairly minor when all things were considered, but it was science that looked after their eyes and ears while deep in Romulan space. “Lieutenant Carrow, how are your labs holding up? Can we still see as far as we need to see?” asked Jonas, referring to the sensor and astrometrics equipment. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Observation Lounge – FO Commander Jonas Lemar – 1020) Finally, Jonas looked over at Brianna Frazier, together with her two aides, and another new face, Will Banowsky. “For those of you who don’t know, this is Will Banowsky, a JAG officer assigned to us for the duration of this mission.” As a number of polite nods and greetings were sent in his direction, Jonas decided to address Banowsky directly. “So, Mr. Banowsky, can I ask your take on our current situation?” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Observation Lounge – FO Commander Jonas Lemar – 1025) Please that he had managed to hear input from many of the senior staff, if not all of them, Jonas decided to stand up. “Right then, I think we’re done here. We’re due to arrive in the Romulan home-system in approximately 2 days. You all have your own assignments and tasks. Let’s get to it! Dismissed.” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 1, Observation Lounge – FO Commander Jonas Lemar – 1026) As people stood up and started to leave, Jonas knew he had not yet heard from any of the medical staff. It wasn’t that their input was any less valuable, but he wanted to speak with them more privately, incase what they had to say would demoralise the rest of the staff. So, before everyone filed out of the room he said, “Counsellor Nayati, Doctor Trommashere, would you stay a moment please?” (reply: Nayati, Trommashere) Smiling at the two, he glanced over to watch everyone else leave. He saw Ensign Dana Travis about to make her way out of the room. He had forgotten that he wanted to speak with her privately also, so he called after her, “Ensign Travis, can I see you in my ready room in 10 minutes?” Ensign Travis froze, apparently shocked that she was being singled out in such a way. “Yes sir. I’ll be there.” With that, she quickly exited the room with the last of the others. When they were finally alone, Jonas turned back to the two medical personnel. “Doctor, how is Captain Sash doing?” He hoped that things were well, but he also hoped that she wouldn’t sugar-coat anything. He was the ideal person to be used to any sort of ‘bad news’. He was a CMO at one time himself, so he knew the drill all too well. (reply: Trommashere) “I’m glad to see you manage to nurse Lieutenant Trinin back to health. How about Lieutenant Harper and his leg? I assume his prosthetic leg will take a little more work?” Jonas was very interested in the chief engineer. Right now, he was without someone to lead the department, and although he had a contingency in mind, he knew nothing would be an adequate substitute for the real thing. (reply: Trommashere) Looking over at the Counsellor, he could see the concern in his eyes. There was deep emotion there, and Jonas wasn’t sure if that was just something that was usual for his race, or if he truly was filled with emotion right now. Either way, Jonas felt he should ask, “And how are things bearing up Counsellor? Have you prepared any messages for the families of the deceased yet?” (reply: Nayati) Satisfied that his staff were doing everything within their power to ensure everyone remained healthy, both physically and mentally, “Well I thank you for your time. Please, keep my updated. And Angeni,” he paused for a moment, “If you need my help at all...as a doctor I mean, then just let me know, OK?” (reply: Trommashere, Nayati) “Alright then. Dismissed.” Jonas said softly with a smile. After the two had left, he picked himself up and made his own way out, to the Ready Room.
